Davao School and Rehabilitation Center for Visually Impaired its operation with a few blind students from neighboring places started in June, 1981; but, its inauguration happened on February 28, 1982 by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Hildegunde Feilner. Davao School and Rehabilitation Center for Visually Impaired was born through the collaborative efforts of the Christian Society for the Prevention of Blindness and Rehabilitation of the Blind, Inc. (CSPBRBI) and Hildesheimer Blindenmission of Germany. its main objectives are: 1. Preventive This is aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable and remediable blindness. 1.1 Conduct free mobile eye clinic for the less privileged sector of society with no access to such services. 1.2 Undertake educational seminars, symposia and other related activities. 1.3 Conduct a general information campaign thru mass media. 2. Curative This is aimed at minimizing the damage or arresting the development of blindness among affected persons. 2.1 Provide medical care, including surgical operation if necessary, for remediable cases of blindness. 3. Skills Training/Education/Sports This is designed to help the blind cope up with the requirements of decent and active living by making them able to acquire useful physical and technical skills as well as basic academic education. 3.1 Provide elementary and high school education to qualified blind children and adults. 3.2 Establish and ongoing sports and recreational program for the blind to help keep them physically fit. 3.3 Undertake a continuing skills training on various crafts and other technical vocations. 3.4 To allow low vision children their remaining vision through the use of telescopic lens or large print materials. 4. Economic Independence Given the education and skills training provided by the school, the blind students will be better prepared to stand on their own rather than be wholly dependent on society for support. But the CSPBRB will undertake a referral program to facilitate the employment of the properly trained visually disabled, and help those who prefer to be self-employed get started. 5. Public Understanding & Support This is an effort at informing the people about the abilities and capabilities of the trained blind, increase their awareness and concern for them, and gain public acceptance and recognition of society’s responsibilities to help solve the problem of blindness. Vision and Mission Statement Is committed to the rehabilitation of the visually impaired, the promotion of their physical, intellectual and moral formation, the cultivation and growth of their social and economic well being that they may be able to attain the highest possible quality of life. To provide quality education to the visually impaired, equipping them with the necessary academic and vocational skills so that they may reach their potential, become self - reliant, productive and useful members of the society.
